Lucero Diaz Ortiz is a highly effective and accomplished bilingual educator with a track record of success in one of Texas’s largest urban school districts. Lucero’s professional experience includes working with low socioeconomic students, Dual Language programs, Gifted and Talented programs, and Title 1 schools. She believes in perfecting her craft through innovative and equitable ways of teaching and engaging learners in a dynamic global environment.
She has 8 years of experience teaching in 1-5th dual language classrooms and is currently a gifted and talented teacher. In her career Lucero has been awarded Elementary Teacher of the Year, is a Dallas ISD Distinguished Teacher, TEA Recognized, received school awards from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Blue Ribbon Schools Award for Academic Excellence and Office of Transformation and Innovation – Public School Choice. She has also been in the HB3 Reading Academy Advisory Council, Campus Leadership Team, District Network Writing Task Force, Special Population Gifted Education: Understanding our Most Able Students from Diverse Backgrounds Book Study Cohort, a grade level chair, mentor teacher, Khan Academy Ambassador, and presented at various district network planning workshops. During her time as a 3rd– 5th Reading Language Arts teacher Lucero has consistently achieved 95- 100% student passing, above 60% students score a minimum of Meets, and above 50% students achieve a score of Master in both English and Spanish Reading and Writing STAAR.
Besides teaching, Lucero has also worked as a professional development facilitator for The Education for the Sustainability of Galapagos islands- a partnership between the Galapagos Conservancy NGO and Ecuadorian Ministry of Education. During this time, she wrote, developed, presented workshops and best practices for the integration of literacy, conservancy initiatives, and curriculum to support teachers and school administrators in the Galapagos Islands.
